Home Energy Audit

What Is Home Performance?

Jaycox Air Conditioning has a complete Home Performance Department dedicated to offering whole-house solutions to high energy bills and homes with home comfort problems. Our Home Energy Audit is a comprehensive home assessment that includes an evaluation of the heating and cooling systems, windows, insulation, duct system, as well as a safety check for carbon monoxide.

What are some common home problems?

Dust: Increased dust can signal it is time for a filter change or that your duct system is leaking.

High Energy Bills: High utility bills can be indicative of air leakage in your home’s envelope, insufficient window coverings, inefficient HVAC equipment, a poorly sealed duct system, or a lack of insulation.

Uneven Cooling or Heating in Some Areas of the Home: Hot or cold spots in your home can be caused by various factors including sun exposure, design of duct system, and HVAC equipment that is not sized properly.

Mold, Mildew, or Musty Odors: Water leaks or high humidity can lead to mold and mildew. This can cause structural damage to your home as well as health issues. Often, high humidity in homes can be traced back to improperly sized or installed air conditioning equipment.

What does a Home Energy Audit Include?

Home Energy Audit Jaycox will perform a complete home inspection and testing including all of the following…

  • Audit the A/C system, insulation, ductwork, and building envelope and perform a blower door test.
  • Replace up to 10 incandescent light bulbs with energy-efficient CFL’s.
  • Install a low- flow showerhead
  • Install 3 low-flow faucet aerators
  • Provide you with a final comprehensive home assessment

What are the benefits of A Home Energy Audit?

There are many reasons to improve the energy performance of your home, including:

  • Saving money on your energy bills
  • Increasing your comfort in every room
  • Improving health and safety for your family
  • Increasing the durability and value of your home
  • Improving environmental quality for your community

Easy ways to cut your energy costs…

  • Turn off exhaust fans immediately after use
  • Use special insulating plugs in all outlets that aren’t in use to prevent hot or cold air from seeping into your house
  • Use your kitchen exhaust fan to remove moisture and heat, but turn it off when you’re finished cooking
  • Vent the dryer outside your house to reduce heat and moisture inside
  • Turn off unnecessary lights and appliances; they add heat to your home
  • Keep windows and doors closed when the heat or AC is on
  • Replace your air filter at least once a month to save energy and increase the life of your heating and cooling system
  • Take a short shower (6 minutes or less) instead of a bath and run the exhaust fan or open the bathroom window 1 or 2″ to remove humidity
  • Defrost foods in the refrigerator instead of in the microwave to save energy and help keep your home cool
  • Dry your clothes outside and put the sun to work for you
  • Cook on an outdoor barbecue to keep the heat out of the kitchen
  • Do cooking and other heat-producing chores during cooler parts of the day
  • Keep windows shaded to keep out direct sunlight
  • Set the thermostat a few degrees higher if you’ll be away from home for several hours

What is an Advanced AC Tune-Up?

A recent study found that more than 55% of existing AC units had issues causing them to waste electricity in summer and winter. That costs you money.

The most cost effective way to ensure that you prolong the longevity of your HVAC equipment and manage rising utility costs is to maintain your equipment. The Advanced Tune-Up uses state-of-the–art diagnostic equipment to provide a more precise tune-up and get your equipment into optimal shape.

This equipment, called a Stargate Machine, will even verify your unit’s refrigerant charge and airflow is correct. You won’t get that from a basic tune-up!

If you are interested in having an Advanced Tune-up done at your home, give us a call at 623-937-7532. APS recommends performing an advanced AC tune-up once every 6 years. In the Phoenix area, the ideal time is between April and October when temperatures are above 75°.
